Obituary of Gary B. Scalise

Ashtabula Twp. - Gary B. Scalise, 64, of Ashtabula passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14, 2015 at home, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. Gary was born on December 14, 1950 in Conneaut, Ohio to Bernard and Carol (Harlacher) Scalise. He graduated from Edgewood High School Class of 1969. Gary was employed with General Electric of Conneaut, retiring in 2008 after 36 years of employment. Gary was a dedicated father and loving son. He spent many years building Soap Box Derby cars with his boys to race. He continued volunteering with the North East Ohio Soap Box Derby and assisting with inspections and helping on race days. He was an excellent handy man and enjoyed helping others with their projects. On any given day you could find him in his work shop tinkering with his tools. Gary loved the outdoors and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds. He absolutely adored his granddaughter Amelia and loved nothing more than spoiling her. He is survived by his mother, Carol Scalise; two sons, Bryan (Elizabeth) and Jonathan Scalise; granddaughter, Amelia Scalise; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard Scalise; brother, Thomas Scalise; and granddaughter Stella Scalise. A memorial service will be held, Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 7:00 P.M. at the Kingsville First Baptist Church, 6003 Rt. 193, Kingsville, with Rev. David Hines, officiating. Family and friends may gather at the church on Wednesday from 5 P.M. until the time of services at 7 P.M. Graveside services will be held Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Greenlawn Memory Gardens.
