Eleanor V. Kalinowski, 92, of Salem, Ohio, passed away, Monday, May 20, 2013 at Ashtabula County Medical Center.
Eleanor was born August 18, 1920 in Conneaut, Ohio to Clyde F. and Florence C. (nee Blood) Laughlin. She graduated from Jefferson High School class of 1938 and married Joseph L. VanSlyke on January 28, 1940, and whom passed on February 8, 1957. Eleanor married her second husband Peter Kalinowski on December 19, 1958, and he passed away on October 13, 1989. She was long time resident of Conneaut and Sheffield.
Mrs. Kalinowski retired in 1989 from the United States Postal Service, as Post Master in Kingsville, after 23 years of service. She was a member of the Kingsville Orion Eastern Star Chapter #12, Sheffield Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Richfield Grange, Sheffield Ladies Birthday Club, Ashtabula VFW Post #943 Auxiliary, and served as a leader for the Sheffield 4-H. She was also a member of the Sheffield Methodist Church.
Mrs. Kalinowski is survived by her daughters, Mary E. (Jim) Miller, of Salem, Karen Gruzosky, of Minneapolis, MN, Candace (Jim) Gately, of Strongsville, and Louneta (Norman) Hewitt of Jefferson; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert (Barb) Laughlin and William (Betty) Laughlin; and her "adopted" daughter, Martha (Lynn) Wetherholt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Joseph L. VanSlyke and Peter Kalinowski; daughter, Elaine Peer; sister, Wilma Weagraff; brothers, John, Clyde, Reid and David Laughlin.
A Celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 1 PM at the Kingsville Orion Masonic Lodge #353, Corners of Rt. 193 and Creek Road, where a Eastern Star Service will be observed. Family will receive friends at the Kingsville Orion Masonic Lodge on Saturday from 12 NOON until time of services at 1 PM. Private inurnment at Gageville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Eleanor may be given to the Eastern Star- Orion Chapter #12, 2015 West Prospect Rd., Ashtabula, OH, 44004 or the Gageville United Methodist Church, PO BOX 439, Kingsville, OH 44048.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to the THOMPSON-SMITH-NESBITT FUNERAL HOME, 345 MAIN ST., CONNEAUT.
