Obituary of Edwin L. Wharton

Edwin L. Wharton, 74, of Conneaut, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home, surrounded by his loving family. Ed was born on April 18, 1941 in Mentor, Ohio to Melvin T. and Elizabeth (Molnar) Wharton. He graduated from Mentor High School and enlisted in the United States Airforce. Mr. Wharton enjoyed collecting hit and miss engines and was a 30-year member of the Ashtabula County Antique Engine Club, where he served as president for 12 years. He was also active with the Conneaut Historical Society and was instrumental in setting up the museum. Ed enjoyed taking is 1929 Hudson to the Conneaut Light House Cruise-in on Thursday night’s. He was also a member of the American Legion Cowle Post #151 and the Conneaut AERIE Eagles Lodge #408. His family will miss his never ending source of knowledge, and his willingness to help despite having a disability and being a great provider. He leaves behind his loving, wife of 36 years, Della (Davis) Wharton; children, Edwin (Amy) Wharton, Jr., Shalece (Mark) Hoyt, Dori Robinson and Carleen (Michael Specht); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard (Georgia) Wharton and Don (Beverly) Wharton; and a daughter-in-law, Julie Robinson. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two son’s Robert Wharton and Michael Robinson. Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the Thompson-Smith-Nesbitt Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut, with Pastor Jan Walsh, of New Leaf United Methodist Church, officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his son, Michael at Glenwood Cemetery, where American Legion Cowle Post #151, will honor their departed comrade. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, October 19, 2015 from 5 P.M. to 8 P.M.
