Joan H. McCarter, 86, of Ashtabula, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2015 in the Cleveland Clinic.
Joan was born on October 13, 1929 in Ashtabula, Ohio to Raymond and Helen (nee Cutwright) Stevens. She graduated from North Kingsville High School Class of 1947. Joan was a member of the East Side Presbyterian Church.
She was employed with Sidley's and cleaned the Ashtabula and Conneaut offices, as well worked for True Temper Corporation and Miss Annette's Dance Studio. Joan was passionate about animals and dedicated many years to the Ashtabula Kennel Club and was a 4-H canine advisor. She also taught dog obedience at the Ashtabula YMCA. Joan enjoyed collecting gorillas, stuffed animals and visiting covered bridges. She loved spending time with her family and had a great sense of humor. Joan loved to laugh and kept a positive outlook on life.
Joan is survived by her loving daughter, Susan I. (Charles L.,) Hawn; granddaughters, Jessica (Jim Goudge) Branscome and Roslyn (Jared Frain) Branscome; great-grandchildren, Alliey, Hailey, Mackenzee, Trinity, Connor, Chloe and soon to be born great-grandson, Ethan; and a sister, Nancy Custead.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Gordon Stevens.
Graveside services will be observed on Monday, November 9, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, US Route 20, North Kingsville, with Pastor Tim Kraus, officiating.
