Obituary of Marian H. Plank

Conneaut- Marian H. "Mid" Plank, 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home. Marian was born on June 11, 1926 in Conneaut, Ohio the daughter of Elo and Olga (Matta) Maki. She graduated from Conneaut High School Class of 1944, after attending Rowe High School previously. Mrs. Plank was retired from the Conneaut Municipal Court, where she served as deputy clerk until her retirement in 1986. She had also been employed as a secretary with Lynn Richards, Attorney and worked at the Astatic Corporation. Marian was a member of the New Leaf United Methodist Church, and was a 50 plus year member of the former First United Methodist Church. She was also past-president of the County Council Women of Finnish Heritage and the American Legion Auxiliary Cowle Unit #151. She was also a charter member of the Bonanza Club. Marian served as a Girl Scout leader in her younger years and enjoyed bowling, jigsaw puzzles, cards, and her family and friends. Mrs. Plank is survived by her two daughters, Valorie (Brad) Somppi and Wendy (Scott) Thomas; grandchildren, Megan Clancy, Glenda (Michael) Hake, and Steven (Kelsie) Thomas; great-grandchildren, Raina, Avery, and Bella Thomas; sister-in-law's, Joan Citarella and Bert Maki. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester E. Plank, Jr.; son, Thomas Plank; and siblings, Alma Schaeffer, Jack Maki and Ann Newman. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 1, 2017 at 6:00 P.M. at the Thompson Smith Nesbitt Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Conneaut with Pastor Jan Walsh, officiating. Private burial at Center Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4PM until time of services at 6PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Marian may be given to Hospice of the Western Reserve 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula or the New Leaf United Methodist Church, 110 Gateway Ave., Conneaut.
