Obituary of Dennis Skip Vasti

Dennis "Skip" Vasti, 63, life long resident of Conneaut, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at UPMC- Hamot, after a brief illness. Dennis was born on February 12, 1952 in Conneaut, Ohio to Kaarlo E. and Audrey L. (Kirkwood) Vasti. He graduated from Conneaut High School Class of 1970. Skip married the love of his life, Mary Jo Carney on October 11, 1986 in Conneaut. He was employed with Alleghany Wood Works in Lake City, Pennsylvania, for the past nine years. Skip had worked for Yankee Coach in Geneva and Accent Millworks in Conneaut, previously. In his younger years he was quarter master of the Sea Scout Ship #33 in 1968 and Wolves Club President in 1977. Skip participated in the 1983 mock lake disaster exercise. He was a former member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and was a Son's of the American Legion, Girard Post #494 member. Skip enjoyed being a social member at the American Legion Cowle Post #151, as well. He enjoyed water skiing, hunting, cookouts on his private beach, playing cards and spending time with his family and friends. Skip enjoyed wood working and completed the remodeling of his home. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jo Vasti; mother, Audrey L. Vasti, of Conneaut; brothers, David (Brenda) Vasti of San Marcos, CA and Jeff Vasti of Conneaut; sister, Karla (Steven) Rapisarda of Zeeland, MI; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Kaarlo E. Vasti. A memorial service will be held, Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 12 NOON at the Conneaut Church of God, 5327 Center Road, Conneaut, OH 44030, with Pastors Robson Carson and Mary Prior, officiating. Family will receive friends from 11 A.M. until time of services at 12 NOON on Saturday at the church. A memorial luncheon will follow services at the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Skip, may be given to the Amboy United Methodist Church, 554 West Main Road, Conneaut, OH 44030.
