Obituary of Shirlee M. Walrath

Shirlee M. Walrath, 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 22, 2018, after a long illness, at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home.

She was born on May 18, 1935 in Conneaut, Ohio the daughter of John and Margaret (Lombard) Janda. Shirlee graduated from Conneaut High School Class of 1953, and after graduation went to work for Conneaut Savings and Loan. After a short time in the banking industry, she became the executive secretary to the treasurer of the Hanna Mining and Steamship Company in Cleveland. On September 28, 1958, she would marry the love of her life, Gary L. Walrath, in Cleveland. Through this union, she would raise two wonderful sons and supported her husband in all his endeavors. Shirlee was always happy and was grateful to be able to travel extensively throughout the world. She and her husband enjoyed wintering in Florida and was an avid golfer.

Shirlee was a longtime member of the North Kingsville Presbyterian Church and enjoyed spending time with the ladies of the Ashtabula Women’s Club and more recently the Red Hat Society.

Mrs. Walrath is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Gary Walrath of North Kingsville; two sons, Brett Walrath of Clearwater, Florida and Lance Walrath of Madison, Ohio; brother Donald (Cindy) Janda of Conneaut; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A private graveside service was held at East Lake Cemetery in North Kingsville.
