Obituary of Fredia E Benton

Fredia E. Benton Fredia E. Benton, 67, of Ashtabula passed away peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2020, surrounded by family at the Cleveland Clinic. She was born June 14, 1952 in Ashtabula the daughter of the late Charles and Dorothy (Siler) Benton. Fredia graduated from Harbor High School, and then went on to earn her associates in General Studies from Kent State University and furthered her education at Capitol University, where she obtained her bachelor's degree in social work. Fredia spent many working years as a social worker at Ashtabula County Children's Services, and after retirement worked as a home health aide at Addus Home Care. She was an Elder at the New Vision Christian Church Center in Warren, Ohio where graduated from their school of ministry. Fredia was a former member of Hiawatha Church of God and Christ, where she served on the junior mother's board. She was recognized locally for her work as a social worker. Fredia was also inducted into Who's Who among Junior Colleges. Fredia loved gospel music and spending time with her family and friends especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Vincent (Jacquelin) Benton of Mentor, and Jennifer Benton of Ashtabula; sisters, Lauren Benton and Deanna Hughes; grandchildren, Fallon, Halie, Jaliyah, Hawwah, Olivia, and Mylen; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Fredia was preceded in death by her sisters, Barbara A. Whipple, and Willie Jean Turner; and her parents. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 11:00AM at Messiah Lutheran Church, 615 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula, where calling hours will be held from 10AM until the time of the services at 11AM. Fredia will be laid to rest with her parents at Greenlawn Memory Gardens with a private family service. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her memory may be given to the Ashtabula County Children Services, 3914 C Ct., Ashtabula, Ohio, 44004.
