Obituary of Audrey L. Vasti

Conneaut- Audrey L. Vasti, 95, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at the Ashtabula County Nursing home after a brief illness. She was born on July 29, 1926, in Youngstown, Ohio the daughter of Ruth (Clark) and Harry Kirkwood, Sr. Audrey graduated from Rowe High School Class of 1944. She married the love of her life, Kaarlo E. Vasti on July 6, 1947, at the Finnish Lutheran Church in Conneaut. In her younger years she worked at the Cleveland Hotel Dining Room as a waitress and later at the Ashtabula Holiday Inn Restaurant. After beginning a family, she had a day care in her home and volunteered with the PTA, local girl and boy scout troops and enjoyed being a Sunday school teacher. After the passing of her husband, she joined the "To Live Again" support group and would volunteer with hospice, as well as Brown Memorial Hospital, assisting with their reception desk and thrift store. Through the years she enjoyed playing cards, dancing, roller skating, spending time with her family on the water, boating, fishing and traveling to visit them. Audrey loved her Lord and Savior and was a devoted member of the Conneaut Church of God, and cherished her church family, as well as being a member of the Eastern Star, Ladies of the Moose, Red Hat Ladies, American Legion Women's Auxiliary and was active with the Lake Erie Boat Club, along with her husband and sons. She will be missed dearly by her children, David (Brenda) Vasti and Karla (Steve) Rapisarda; grandchildren, Kimberly (Jerry) Dickinson and Brian Vasti, Laura (Jordan) Ramsey, Krista Rapisarda, Matthew (Ashley) Rapisarda and Sarah Rapisarda; great-grandchildren, Stephan Vasti, Griffin and Ellis Ramsey and Olsen Grace Rapisarda; many nieces and nephews; and dear church family members. Audrey was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Kaarlo E. Vasti (1985); sons, Dennis "Skip" Vasti (2015) and Jeffrey A. Vasti (2017); and her siblings, Harry Kirkwood, Jr., Hazel Laituri, Carl Kirkwood and Naomi Jewett. A graveside service will be observed, Saturday, November 6, 2021, at 11:00AM at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, with Rev. Carson Robson, officiating. Memorials in her memory may be given to the American Legion Cowle Post #151, 272 Broad St., Conneaut, or the Conneaut Church of God, 5327 Center Rd., Conneaut, Ohio, 44030.
