Obituary of Richard L. Markijohn

Richard L. "Rick" Markijohn, 68, of West Springfield, Pennsylvania, passed away on June 12, 2023, following a brief illness. Rick was born on September 11, 1954, in Conneaut, Ohio, to the late Richard S. and Marcelene (Cifelli) Markijohn.
After graduating from Conneaut High School in 1972, Rick worked at various establishments throughout Ashtabula County and retired from Airgas in Erie, PA.
He married Michelle Lee, the love of his life, on May 19, 1990. She was never far from his side for the rest of his life, including in his final moments.
Rick loved cooking and all Cleveland sports, but his greatest passion (after Michelle) was spending time with his family. He loved being Papa Rick to his grandchildren and cherished the time he spent cooking for and playing games with his family. Aside from his roles as husband and father, Rick prided himself on being a good big brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, nephew, and friend.
Rick is survived by his wife, Michelle; sons from a previous marriage, Michael (Nora) Markijohn of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, and Nicholas Markijohn (Jessica Sines) of Mentor, Ohio; daughter, Payton Markijohn (Nathan Hosler); grandchildren, Zachary, Grant, Samuel, Sadie, Ava, and his bonus grandchildren, Asher, Haven, and JD. Survivors also include his brother, Anthony (Anne) Markijohn of Geneva, Ohio; and sisters, Julie Babich of Hermitage, PA, and Marcie (Ken) Kozack of Fairfield, PA. He also leaves behind loving in-laws, Jim and Nancy Lee; his brother-in-law, Steve (Lori) Lee; and several nephews, nieces, aunts, and uncles.
Also preceding him in death were his brother, Joseph A. Markijohn; his grandparents; and many aunts and uncles, including his beloved Aunt Irene and Uncle Buck.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 22, 2023, at 1:00PM at the THOMPSON-SMITH-NESBITT FUNERAL HOME, 345 Main St., Conneaut. Ohio. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 11:00AM until the time of services at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
