Rev. Leonard A. Purdue, Sr., 86, of Main St., Conneaut, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Lake Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Leonard was born on February 13, 1927 in Scottdale, Pennsylvania to Charles and Myrtle (Lawson) Leonard.
He was a United States Army Veteran, stationed in Korea. Rev. Purdue retired from Plasticolors in 1989, and also enjoyed ministering to others throughout his life. He was pastor at Church of the 1st Born in Conneaut and also will be remembered for opening his home to others for Sunday services. Leonard enjoyed the outdoors, animals, writing poetry, and singing gospel songs. He loved ministering to others and presided over many weddings and funerals.
Rev. Purdue is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Lillian (Taylor) Purdue; sons, Peter, Daniel, Eric (Heather) and Seth Purdue, all of the local area; daughter, Lenna Purdue of Georgia; two grandsons, Deon Grant and Austin Snyder; his children from his first marriage, Leonard, Jr., David, Lorraine, Beverly, Sharon, Janice, Dorothy and Carol; from which he had 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 12 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Four Square Gospel FFC, 641 Mill St., Conneaut, with Pastor Dan Halstead, officiating. Burial will follow at City Cemetery where American Legion Cowle Post #151 will perform military rites. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10 A.M. until time of services at 12 Noon.
