Kathleen "Kathy" Plats, 64, of Conneaut, passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 28, 2015, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born September 12, 1951 in Ashtabula, Ohio the daughter of the late Charles Eugene and Lois Mae (Fields) Moore. Kathy received her Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in education from Kent State University.
A longtime educator in the Conneaut Area Schools, she spent many years teaching children at Lakeview Elementary and then retired from Gateway Elementary School after 36 years with the district. After retirement Kathy continued to do what she loved and volunteered her time at the schools helping many students prepare for the future.
Everyone who knew Kathy knows she was a vibrant and strong woman with a fun and outgoing personality. She enjoyed bowling and made many friends there over the years. She was a member of the Monroe Sirens and enjoyed taking trips with the ladies and volunteering for the fundraisers they held, she also volunteered her time at the Conneaut Thrift Shop
Kathy was a "Picker," she enjoyed collecting antiques as well as costume jewelry. Kathy enjoyed going to the casino with her friends, music, especially live music, but most of all she enjoyed being a MOM and spending time with her children and family.
Kathy is survived by her children, Danielle (John) Mutter of Painesville, Jason (Rose Kramer) Plats of Willoughby, and Travis Plats of Euclid; brothers, Charles (Bonnie) Moore of North Kingsville and Leonard Moore of Dalton, Ohio; and her former husband and father of her children, Sidney Plats.
Calling hours will be held on SUNDAY, November 1, 2015 from 2:00- 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held on TUESDAY, November 3, 2015 at 1:00 PM at the THOMPSON-SMITH-NESBITT FUNERAL HOME, 345 Main St., Conneaut, with Rev. Lois Burke officiating. Friends may call from 12 until the time of service at 1PM. Burial will follow at Gageville Cemetery.
